Jack had to take a letter to Bill Bill live in a sheep wagon in the mountains. He rode [?] tail along the mountains trails until he saw sheep grazing. A flicker is building a nest. It is fun to watch it. Soon the children come to a tree in Bob's yard. The ground under the tree was sprinkled with bits of wood that looked like tiny chips. They look like a mustache said Bob. I have been watching these flickers ever since that first day when one wake me up. I don't know what kind of wood pecker was there [?].

it is near the big dipper it is a part of the little Dipper. The Dippers are always in the north. the Big dipper always helps you find the north star. Because the earth moves around the sun the constellations seem to move westward in the sky. corn. Beans. nuts. eggplants. tomatoes.

It seems as though the rocks come to the surface during the winter. things freeze in winter freezing making water expand. I have often seen milk that has frozen in the bottle. This is a good example of what running water can do to soil notice that near the top of the hill very [?] little dirt has wash away. They are broken up into several colors we see violet indigo blue green yellow orange and Red.

"We get maple sugar..."

We get maple sugar from the kind of maple tree called the sugar maple. We get the sugar from sap of the tree. sap of a sugar maple looks like Water and it is sweet. Under a tree is the worst place to stand during a storm. Trees often attract lightning. if you were standing under a tree when a flash of lightning came you might be hurt. The electricity collects on drops of water in the clouds. The electricity jumps across the [?] and make the spark which we call lightning.

When anybody are putting away fruits...

When anybody are putting away fruits the jar have to be perfectly and the covers fit tightly enough to keep out the air out unless it will spoil. We learn (?) about the earth and moon and the eclipse. and the sun. They cut down the trees and cut of [sic] the Branches. They cut the trees into pieces they could use (?) then they put little branch twigs and grass and mud in the cracks to stop up the waters. Honey is food for the bees. and strawberries, flowers, and all kind of fruit.
