World Atom Control

In this undated cartoon, Goldberg pictures Bernard Baruch's strategy for the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons, known as "The Baruch Plan," as a stopper on a split faucet connected to World Atom Control. The other side of the faucet, labeled "Russian Plan," has no stopper, a reference to Russia's refusal to vote in favor of Baruch's proposal.

Outlandish Bird of Prey

This cartoon portrays a strange creature perched on the dome of the Capitol Building. With the head of a dragon, wings, hooves and a fish's tail, the animal is covered with phrases from a statement by Bernard Baruch that appears next to it. The gloomy nature of Baruch's quote may stem from his worries about atomic energy. The cartoon is dated 1949, the year Russia became a nuclear power.

Above the Crowd

In this 1948 drawing, Bernard Baruch stands over a crowd of "Selfish Vote-Seekers." He is holding the Baruch Report, the basis for the Baruch Plan, which he presented to the United Nations Atomic Energy Commission (UNAEC) during its first meeting in June 1946. His placement above the crowd represents Goldberg's perception of Baruch, who never ran for elected office, as being free from political pressures.
